A significant component of our Cultural Preservation Programme is research and development where with support from local craftsmen and marine consultants from abroad, we focus on documenting every stage and technique of building different types of boats.  Much work is carried out to be innovative, and develop boats with local materials, employing modern technology.  Additionally, while we have in our team master boat-builders, some of who are the last remaining ones skilled in a specific technique, we also have boat-builders interested to learn new methods and skills, so that they can face the future and have a secure and stable income.

The purpose behind our research work on this is to ultimately assist in any way possible, to improve the lives of boatmen, fishermen, and all others involved in subsidiary industries.  In research and development, we believe in innovation rooted firmly on traditional knowledge.
