A bulk of the support in order to generate income sources are given not to individuals but the cooperative. Supports include irrigation pump (FCDC), cultivation money (individual), livestock for milk and fattening (individual), fisheries (individual), vegetable gardening (individual), telephones (individual but for collective use), boats (individual and FCDC), and solar panels (community) among others.
Part of the profit made by loan receivers goes into an insurance fund which is set aside for emergency use during hard times. This element of micro-insurance for collective use gives the beneficiaries a sense and source of security as they know that they have a back-up for management of risks.
Through our work, we have observed that one of the most difficult aspects for lack of sustained income of char dwellers is that they find it very difficult to pay back lenders and are always struggling due to it. Thus, to lessen the risk we have incorporated the idea of risk-sharing in our project where the idea is that if there is a loss, then it is shared: the loan receiver loses time spent and the profit that might have generated while we lose the principle amount of the investment.
