TaraTari Associate Sail for France on Jute-Fibreglass Boat
Published Date: February 18, 2010On 13 February 2010, Corentin Dechatel Perron embarked on a great journey, sailing from Bangladesh to France on a 9m x 2m sail boat made at the TaraTari shipyard. The specialty of the boat is that it is made with 40% jute and 60% fibreglass. The purpose of Corentin’s journey is to not only go on a great adventure but raise awareness on the research and development centre that TaraTari is launching in collaboration with VPLP, in order to develop boats made out of eco-friendly, locally produced materials coupled with new technologies, for Bangladesh. The ultimate aim of this centre is to contribute in ways through research and development of boats that will improve the socio-economic conditions of people living in the vulnerable coastal and riverine areas of the country.

On the day of his departure, there was a press conference organized in collaboration with Bengal Group. Before the formal beginning of the press conference, the workers at the TaraTari shipyard gathered around Corentin, wished him well for his journey, and gifted him with a monocular and a TaraTari t-shirt with their names signed on it.
Corentin will be backtracking on the same route that Yves Marr* took on his way from France to Bangladesh on a river barge back in 1994. On his journey he will stop in Sri Lanka, Oman, Djibouti, and reach the Mediterranean through the Suez Canal. In the Mediterranean, he will stop in Greece, Italy and then France which will mark the end of his journey.
We, from Friendship wish Corentin all the best for his journey!
*Yves Marr brought a river barge from France to Bangladesh which now is our flagship project the Lifebuoy Friendship Hospital. Our Story section on the website tells the whole story.
