Smile Train-Italia conducts specialized health camp at the EFH
Published Date: May 23, 2010Last month Emirates Friendship Hospital (EFH) hosted a specialized health camp on reconstructive paediatric surgery for cleft lip and cleft palette. This was the first time that Smile Train-Italia and Friendship worked together. The intensive health camp was from 24 to 29 April, 2010. The EFH was docked on the Brahmaputra River at Shakhahati Char of Kurigram district which is in northern Bangladesh.
The Smile Train-Italia team consisted of seven members including two surgeons, two anaesthesiologists, a scrub nurse, an intensive care nurse and a mission coordinator. They consulted more than 30 children and conducted 27 surgeries over the duration of the camp. Chief surgeon of the mission Dr. Andrea Franchella said that the facilities on the ship were very adequate and he feels that it is possible to conduct such missions in the future too.
Friendship sincerely acknowledges and appreciates the valuable service Smile Train-Italia team provided which directly changed the lives of 27 children and their families; and looks forward to future opportunities to work together.
