Internal training session on CMDRR
Published Date: January 11, 2012
Recently a six days training on Community Managed Disaster Risk Reduction (CMDRR) was held from 2nd December to 6th December 2011 in Kurigram district of northern Bangladesh. It was organized for the staff of different projects of Friendship by the Plinth Raising and Disaster Preparedness & SIGP (PRDP & SIGP) team of Disaster Management and Infrastructure Development (DMID) programme of Friendship. The resource persons for the training were two specialist trainers from Concern Universal.
The objectives of the training were:
• To explore the philosophy, concepts and principles of CMDRR
• To analyze various disaster risk reduction frameworks and models with special focus on hazards
• To identify and analyze different types of hazards and examine community managed approach to reduce disaster risks
• To facilitate the process of participatory risk analysis and assess the impact of major hazards that affects the communities
• To apply community planning in the context of disaster risk reduction efforts and adapt participatory tools.
• To facilitate the development of community action plans to support community managed risk reduction efforts taking into consideration the major hazards in the region.
This was a unique training for Friendship as it included all the projects’ staff. As it has been found that at the time of any hazard everyone has to participate in emergency recovery work irrespective of their professional background and job descriptions, Friendship management wanted to ensure that all staff located in disaster prone areas, received this training.
