Friendship’s ED participates in a conference Humanitarian medical cares

Executive Director of Friendship, Runa Khan participated in a panel at a conference Humanitarian Medical Care in Lands of Islam organized by HumaniTerra. The conference was held on Thursday 15th December 2011 at Bibliothèque L'Alcazar, a public library in Marseilles, France. The theme of the conference was discussion on how to conciliate religion and humanitarian medical care in Islamic developing countries. The speakers in the conference analyzed the specific problems that could be encountered in places where religion has an overwhelming presence in public life and cultural habits, often making it difficult for outsiders to understand those practices.
The conference had around 80 participants, including HumaniTerra's volunteer teams and executive committee, representatives of various NGOs (Doctors of the World, Santé Sud, Raoul Kanazi, ASMAE), donors (AFD - Agence Française de Développement), local student organisations and doctors, professors and surgeons from Marseille area. The speakers were Suraya Pakzad from Afghanistan, Runa Khan from Bangladesh, Tareq Qubrou, Chairman of the French Islamic Relief Ethical Committee, Pierre Micheletti, Chairman of Doctors of the World in 2006 and Christian Echinard, Plastic surgeon, Founder and Chairman of HumaniTerra, surgical NGO. Bruno David, Founder and Chairman of Communication Without Borders and creator of the Grand Prix of solidarity communication in France moderated discussions at the conference.
